Microsoft is now seizing its moment to assert its dominance in the tech industry, challenging companies like Google, Apple, and Nokia. With one million people eager to try Bing’s new AI-powered features, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is bringing ChatGPT to the search engine.
Despite the excitement, ChatGPT is only available to select users on a waitlist. As a loyal Microsoft customer, I was eager to try it out, but was met with disappointment when I was informed that I had to join the waitlist. Microsoft then offered me the opportunity to move up the waitlist if I made Microsoft my default settings on my PC or download the Bing app.
Feeling slightly coerced, I complied and downloaded the app, only to find that it did not immediately grant me access to the new features. This tactic seemed manipulative and left a sour taste in my mouth.
As a company that once criticized Google, Microsoft should strive to make its new innovations accessible and user-friendly without imposing unnecessary conditions. Embracing openness and inclusivity could enhance its reputation, rather than resorting to tactics that may alienate potential users.
